Splashy Fen 2011-Line Up... 21-24 April 2011

Culture De La Rue

Durban Artistic talent airlifted, way above skyscraper heights at the Alliance Francaise de Durban on Saturday 19 March 2011. Live art battle, beat boxing, an underground comic being distributed, K.R.U.M.P dancing, disc jockey on the decks, hip hop performance and a beautiful crowd...
"A Hip Hop, Cultural, French Affair"

Black Moss, A Durban MC, took us on lyrical journey as the audience lazed back and took in a great show alongside the Nutcrackers commanding the turntables.
"Come take a ride with me on the Gravy Train,
Materialist Extrodinaire,
Come take a ride with me on the Gravy Train,
I will make your money problems disappear"
(A chorus/hook from one of Black Moss' archive hits)

The Sons of God came out crew thick; Lil Que, YogiBuck, Maxtwocap, D Lo, Baby Max, Mpilo and Que.
A movement of young K.R.U.M.P. dancers in and around Durban gave out a BUCK, air jabbing, chest pumping performance. A beat boxer dubbed Drumkit (Ntuthuko Majola) left the audience yearning for more a tantalising showcase of skills, bass, drum, snare... (Kanye West could learn a thing or 2 in Beat-making)
An underground comic Freebeer (3rd Issue) was distributed, a self funded project by Alastair Laird, Creepy Steve and Warren Raysdorf. Patience and Grace and The Forbidden Pages of Kung Fu Jesus are my favourites. Next issue will be distributed at the Winston Pub 1st of April 2001.

The Live Art Battle (Sketch Warz) was the main event, using a black marker on canvas.
The Sketchers that partictipated were; Nick Young-Thompson, Part of the Eish! Magazine Team; Neo Mokgoko an online artist who works for Genuine magazine; Kevin Wang aka Burnface a computer artist;
Alastair Laird a cartoonist, Mpilo Manzini an Art and Design student, Dusty Rich aka Rich a Comedian,
Paul Oxborrow an Illustrator for the Hardy Boys, Sifiso Snyire Nyirenda running his label LabbRart, Warren Raysdorf a Freelancer, Antony George Kirkwood aka Gasak from PMB (Stayed in Imbali township for a week spray painting Children homes)
From the wealth of talent amongst the participants the winners were respectively;
Dusty "Rich" with a piece of octopus French kissing, champagne and flick knives.
Nick Young-Thompson with a piece of a Frog eating a Man.
Paul Oxborrow presented a Frenchman Superhero with acute irony.

Much Love and Respect to all Sketchers, Beat Boxer Drumkit, Nutcrackers on Decks, Sons of God, Freebeer team, Black Moss and Alliance Francaise de Durban.
